Our programmatic focus for sustainable development in the Maldives:

Support and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities, including sustainable fishing, agriculture, eco-tourism, and value-added products and services.
Empower communities through skills development, training, and capacity building initiatives.
Foster social inclusivity, gender equality, and community engagement in decision-making processes to ensure the well-being and active participation of all community members.

Implement strategies and initiatives to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the carbon footprint of the Maldives.
Assess and address the vulnerabilities of the Maldives to climate change impacts, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and changing rainfall patterns.
Develop and implement climate change adaptation strategies, including coastal protection measures, water resource management plans, and disaster preparedness programs.

Promote the adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change.
Advocate for energy efficiency practices and technologies in households, businesses, and tourism establishments.
Facilitate partnerships and collaborations to implement renewable energy projects, promote sustainable energy policies, and provide training on renewable energy technologies.

Implement comprehensive waste management systems that prioritise recycling, waste reduction, and proper disposal techniques.
Raise awareness and educate communities on the importance of responsible waste management and the harmful impacts of pollution.
Collaborate with local authorities and businesses to develop sustainable waste management practices, initiatives, and awareness campaigns.

Conduct research to enhance understanding of local ecosystems, climate change impacts, and sustainable development practices.
Develop educational programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote sustainable practices and raise awareness about environmental issues.
Collaborate with educational institutions, NGOs, and government agencies to integrate sustainability education into curricula and promote lifelong learning for sustainable development.
